INSET DAY - FRIDAY 30TH OF JUNE - SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED

Welsh

Welsh language belongs to all the people of Wales, whether they speak it or not; it’s part of our common heritage, from the place names all around us to the National Anthem. It’s spoken by over half a million people, and understood by many more. Were proud of our heritage and we are filled with joy that we can share our beautiful language and poetry with our students.

The Curriculum

We teach Welsh First Language to pupils in Year 7 to the 6th form and Second Language from Year 7-11. What’s important to us in the department is that every pupil feels confident when speaking, reading and writing Welsh and that they feel proud to speak the language and be bilingual.

Key Stage 3

During each term we study a different theme, paying particular attention to oral, listening, reading and writing skills. During the KS3 lessons we introduce and prepare you for the skills you will need while studying GCSE.

Resources and Home Learning

All the Welsh lessons happen in rooms 3, 5, 7 and 8. We also use the Library for reading lessons and we use the ICT rooms to complete work on the computers.

We offer a variety of experiences for every pupil in the Department. We encourage you to compete in Urdd competitions. Clwb CIB is important to us so that you can socialise through the medium of Welsh. We also give you the chance to compete in public speaking competitions. We welcome a variety of guest speakers to the department and organise trips, such as the Year 8 trip to Glanllyn, a trip to Felinfach Theatre, to the National Library of Wales and a 2-day trip to North Wales with the Sixth Form.
